The Sanken CS-2 is a mono condenser shotgun microphone with a 120 mm acoustic tube inside a standard 250 mm long, 19 mm diameter brass body that weighs 110 g. Its supercardioid/lobar pickup gives tight directivity for its length, with a 50 Hz to 20 kHz frequency range, 15 dB-A self-noise and a 130 dB SPL maximum. It needs 48 V phantom power and has a 3-pin XLR output. A high-boost switch adds 3 dB at 8 kHz to make up for the top end lost inside a windshield. On location it goes on a boom pole for dialogue and interviews, or on a camera for ENG and documentary coverage, and the high-boost switch makes it a good choice for exterior scenes under a full windshield. Pair it with a suspension and windshield sized for a 19 mm, 250 mm shotgun and a recorder or mixer that supplies phantom power.
