The gear
About this gear
A Sennheiser EW-DX SKM-S digital handheld transmitter for the Q1-9 band (470.2-550 MHz), fitted with an MMD 845-1 BK capsule. The MMD 845 is a dynamic supercardioid head (40 Hz-16 kHz) that Sennheiser specifies for high feedback rejection. The SKM-S has a metal housing, a programmable mute switch and an E-Ink display that keeps showing its settings even with the batteries out. RF output is fixed at 10 mW, which Sennheiser rates for up to 100 m.
It runs on two AA batteries or Sennheiser's BA 70 rechargeable pack, rated for up to 12 hours. Pair it with an EW-DX receiver on the same band, such as the EW-DX EM 4 Dante, for presenters, hosts, panel moderators and live vocals. Low cut (30-120 Hz) and digital trim are set from the handheld's own buttons, and the mute switch can be set to mute audio, mute RF or do nothing.

FAQ
Questions about this gear
Sennheiser EW-DX receivers on the Q1-9 range (470.2-550 MHz), such as the EW-DX EM 4 Dante. Receivers on other frequency ranges will not pick it up.
Yes. The SKM-S uses Sennheiser's standard capsule interface, so other compatible Sennheiser and Neumann heads fit. It is supplied with the MMD 845-1 BK fitted.
Two AA batteries or the Sennheiser BA 70 rechargeable pack. Sennheiser quotes up to 12 hours with the BA 70.
Sennheiser rates the fixed 10 mW output for up to 100 m. Real range depends on line of sight, antenna placement and the RF environment, so walk-test the room.
