About this gear
The Tamron 70-300mm F/4.5-6.3 Di III RXD (Model A047) is a compact telephoto zoom for full-frame Sony E-mount: 15 elements in 10 groups, an RXD stepping AF motor and moisture-resistant construction in a 148 mm, 545 g body. It has no built-in stabilisation (no VC); Tamron leaves that to the camera's in-body system. Minimum focus is 0.8 m at 70 mm and 1.5 m at 300 mm.
It is a light way to add reach for speaker close-ups from the back of a conference room, stage details, sport and candid event coverage. The f/4.5–6.3 aperture needs decent light or higher ISO, and on a body without IBIS the long end calls for a tripod or monopod. Filters are 67 mm, as on Tamron's 17-28mm and 28-75mm.
