The gear

About this gear

The Anker 555 (model A8383) turns one USB-C port into eight: an HDMI 2.0 output at up to 4K60, Gigabit Ethernet, a 10 Gbps USB-C data port, two 10 Gbps USB-A ports, and UHS-I SD and microSD slots. A USB-C Power Delivery input accepts up to 100 W and passes up to 85 W through to the laptop, so the host keeps charging while everything is connected.

At a production desk it fixes the usual thin-laptop problems in one go: a wired network port for a streaming or control machine, a second screen for multiview or running notes, and a card reader for offloading. Video output only works when the laptop's USB-C port supports DisplayPort Alt Mode.
