The gear

About this gear

Sennheiser's GZL RG 8X is a 5 m, 50 Ω low-loss coaxial cable with BNC connectors at both ends, made for connecting remote antennas to wireless receivers, antenna splitters and in-ear monitor transmitters. RG8X (mini-8) is thicker than RG58 and loses less signal at UHF, which is why it is the usual pick when an antenna has to move away from the rack. It is not an SDI video cable: SDI needs 75 Ω cable.

Five metres gets a paddle or omni antenna out of the rack and onto a stand at the edge of the stage, or links a splitter to a receiver rack nearby. Coax also passes the DC that splitters such as the EW-D ASA send to antenna boosters. The larger diameter makes it stiffer than RG58, so plan the routing and avoid tight bends close to the connectors.

Highlights

  • 01Sennheiser GZL RG 8X: 50 Ω low-loss coax for remote wireless antennas
  • 02Lower loss at UHF than thinner RG58 cable
  • 03BNC connectors at both ends for receivers, splitters, combiners and IEM transmitters
  • 045 m length for moving antennas from the rack to a stand with line of sight to the stage

FAQ

Questions about this gear

No. SDI needs 75 Ω cable and connectors; this is 50 Ω RF cable meant for antennas.

RG8X loses less signal at UHF, so it is the better pick when every dB counts. RG58 is thinner and easier to route on short runs.

Coaxial cable passes the DC bias voltage that some receivers and splitters supply to active antennas or boosters, so it works as long as your equipment provides that power.
