The gear

About this gear

DJI's RS 3 Pro is a three-axis gimbal with carbon-fibre arms and automated axis locks, tested by DJI with payloads up to 4.5 kg. The gimbal weighs about 1.14 kg, plus 265 g for the BG30 battery grip, which DJI rates at up to 12 hours (balanced, level and stationary) and about 1.5 hours to charge on a 24 W charger. The Combo adds DJI's Focus Motor and the Ronin Image Transmitter.

It carries mirrorless and compact cinema bodies with mid-size lenses for walk-and-talks, product moves and event b-roll. The Image Transmitter sends a live view to a phone running the Ronin app, rated at 100 m under CE rules, so a director or client can watch the frame without running a cable.

FAQ

Questions about this gear

DJI tested the RS 3 Pro with up to 4.5 kg of camera and lens, correctly balanced. Front-heavy zooms and matte boxes eat into that margin.

No. The Pro has carbon-fibre arms and a 4.5 kg tested payload, against 3 kg for the lighter RS 3, and it works with the Ronin Image Transmitter included here.

Mount the Ronin Image Transmitter, feed it the camera's HDMI output and view on a phone in the Ronin app. DJI rates it at 100 m under CE rules.

DJI quotes up to 12 hours for the BG30 grip with the gimbal balanced, level and stationary. With the focus motor, transmitter and real movement, expect less.
