The gear

About this gear

The BOYA BY-WM8 Pro-K2 is a two-channel analogue UHF wireless lavalier kit: two bodypack transmitters feed one camera-mountable receiver. It offers 48 selectable channels, an LCD on every unit and an operating range that BOYA quotes at up to 100 m without obstacles. Each transmitter has a 3.5 mm mic input and a separate 3.5 mm line input; the receiver has a 3.5 mm line output and a 3.5 mm headphone socket for monitoring. Every unit runs on two AA batteries, about 6 hours on the transmitters and about 4 hours on the receiver.

It is a low-cost way to get two presenters or interviewees into a camera, field recorder or mixer: put the receiver on the camera shoe, set the channels and monitor on headphones. Pack spare AA cells for long days, since the receiver runs out first.
