The gear

About this gear

This Mini Converter moves SDI onto optical fibre and back again in both directions at once: SDI in goes out on the fibre, and fibre in comes back out on SDI. The SDI side is multi-rate 12G, covering SD, HD and Ultra HD up to 2160p60 with Level A and B devices, and the optical side is a standard SFP socket. Our units have a single-mode NovaStar SFP optical module fitted, with LC fibre connections.

Converters are normally used in pairs, one at each end of a fibre, for camera, multiview or programme feeds over distances coax cannot reach, such as between a stage and a control room in another building. Each unit can carry a return feed at the same time. With single-mode optics fitted, use single-mode fibre between the two units, such as our Percon 250 m tactical drum. It runs from the supplied 12 V adapter, accepts 6 to 36 V DC and draws about 2 W.

  • 0512 V power supply included; 6 to 36 V DC input, about 2 W

FAQ

Questions about this gear

Yes. Each unit has a single-mode NovaStar SFP optical module fitted, with LC connections. Use single-mode fibre between the two units; our OM3 multimode drums are not suitable for this link.

For a point-to-point link, yes. One converts SDI to fibre at the source and the other converts it back at the far end, and each can send a return feed the other way.

That depends on the SFP module and the fibre used, not on the converter itself, so check the rated range of the modules fitted.

The SDI connections are multi-rate, from SD to 12G. Which rates pass over the fibre also depends on the SFP module, so check your format end to end before the show.
