The gear
About this gear
The VideoMicro is RØDE's compact on-camera microphone: a cardioid condenser with a 0.5-inch capsule, a 100 Hz to 20 kHz response and 140 dB maximum SPL, held in a Rycote Lyre suspension on a cold-shoe foot. It has no battery and runs on the 2-5 V plug-in power from the camera's 3.5 mm mic input. At 42 g and 80 mm long, it barely changes the balance of a small rig.
Use it for scratch and ambient sound on mirrorless cameras, as a reference track on a B-cam, or as a step up from built-in camera audio for pieces to camera. The furry windshield makes it usable outdoors; for dialogue at a distance, a lavalier or a boomed shotgun closer to the speaker will sound better.

FAQ
Questions about this gear
No. It runs on 2-5 V plug-in power from the camera's 3.5 mm microphone input, so that input must supply plug-in power.
Not with the included TRS cable. Phones with a headset socket need a TRS-to-TRRS cable such as RØDE's SC7, and USB-C phones need an adapter as well.
The integrated Rycote Lyre mount ends in a cold-shoe foot that slides into the camera's hot or cold shoe.
